Jake Slaughter is a 6-foot-5, 303-pound center who was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers with the 63rd overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Widely regarded as the top center prospect in his class, Slaughter anchored the University of Florida offensive line for three seasons as a starter. His rare combination of size, football IQ, and pass-blocking technique made him a consensus top-100 pick heading into draft weekend.
Slaughter grew up in Sparr, Florida, an unincorporated community in Marion County with a population of just 94 people. He attended Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, where he earned a three-star recruiting ranking and received offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Georgia Tech, and several other programs. He initially committed to Florida State before flipping his commitment to the Gators.
Across five seasons at Florida from 2021 to 2025, Slaughter compiled 33 career starts and logged over 2,000 offensive snaps at center. His breakout 2024 season saw him earn AP First-Team All-American and First-Team All-SEC honors while allowing just one sack over 422 pass-blocking snaps. He became only the third center in Gators history to receive First-Team All-American recognition.
During his final college season in 2025, Slaughter served as team captain and started all 12 games, earning Consensus Second-Team All-American and First-Team All-SEC honors for the second straight year. He was also named a Rimington Award finalist, given annually to the nation's best center. His PFF pass-blocking grade of 84.1 ranked 18th nationally among qualified centers.
As a newly drafted Charger, Slaughter is expected to compete for the starting center position immediately. His elite pass protection, run-blocking ability, and pre-snap command of the line make him a day-one contributor in Los Angeles. Off the field, Slaughter remains connected to his small-town roots in Sparr, where he grew up hunting, fishing, and playing in the backyard creek with his family.
