Jazz Chisholm Jr. is a Bahamian-born second baseman for the New York Yankees, widely regarded as one of the most electrifying players in Major League Baseball. Standing 5-foot-11 and 184 pounds, he combines elite speed with legitimate power from the left side. A two-time All-Star and 2025 Silver Slugger winner, Jazz became just the third Yankee in franchise history to record a 30-30 season. His full name, Jasrado Prince Hermis Arrington Chisholm Jr., hints at a personality as colorful as his game.
Born on February 1, 1998, in Nassau, Bahamas, Jazz learned to hit from his maternal grandmother Patricia Coakley, a former shortstop on the Bahamian national softball team. At age 12 he earned a scholarship to Life Prep Academy in Wichita, Kansas, leaving his island home behind. The Arizona Diamondbacks signed him as an international free agent on July 5, 2015, for $200,000. In 2019 the D-backs traded him to the Miami Marlins in exchange for pitcher Zac Gallen, a deal that would reshape both franchises.
Jazz debuted with the Marlins on September 1, 2020, and by 2021 was their everyday second baseman, slashing .248 with 18 home runs and 23 stolen bases. In 2022 he was voted the NL All-Star starting second baseman, becoming the first Bahamian-born player ever selected to an All-Star team. A back stress reaction cut that season short, and turf toe plagued his 2023 campaign after he moved to center field. Despite the injuries, he showed tantalizing flashes of five-tool talent every time he stepped on the diamond.
On July 27, 2024, the Yankees acquired Jazz in a trade that electrified the Bronx. He smashed four home runs in his first three games in pinstripes, a franchise record. In 2025 he posted a career-best 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases, joining the exclusive 30-30 club while earning his second All-Star nod and the AL Silver Slugger at second base. An oblique strain cost him the entire month of May, yet he still finished with an .813 OPS across 130 games.
Off the field, Jazz is a walking highlight reel of personality. A Jordan Brand athlete and Once Upon a Coconut ambassador, he is known for extravagant jewelry including a UFO spaceship chain and a One Piece-inspired Gear 5 necklace. He describes himself as a painter, rapper, and fashion designer in addition to being a ballplayer. His Caribbean flair and fearless swagger have made him a fan favorite at Yankee Stadium and a cultural icon among younger baseball fans.
